Day 5: almost got run over by a car... and a good day in class!

Hola!
I think I'm starting to get into routine with things around here... :) Today I met even more people! The only problem is that I meet so many cool people who I'd love to travel around San Jose with! However, nobody has an international phone so it makes it very challenging to get in touch with them. You can find them on facebook or e-mail them, but then it's not a guarantee that they'll get your message on time to do something. Bummer. I was talking to some girls from Michigan, New York, Massuchussetts, and a professor from New York while I was hanging at school before class, and they all felt the same way. There are so many international students here! It's amazing! Plus, they're all really friendly! The past few days I have gone to school with my roommates after breakfast because they have a morning class but I don't, so I go and just hang out at school for 3 hours. You'd think that those 3 hours would go slow...but while you're sitting there browsing on your laptop a minimum of 5 or so people will come up to you and just start chit chatting with you. I love it! Plus, they all have the same interests as me--learning about other cultures and TRAVELING! I just love it here so far! :) the professor from New York is here on sebatical with his wife and son (they're renting a house in Guanacaste for four months!) but he's checking out the program for his students this week. Anyway, it was a lot of fun talking to him. He was giving us advice to just live it up while we're here because you never know when you'll be able to come back, but also he told us how amazing this will look on our resumes! (second time I've been told that here) He also told us that we should really try to do an internship abroad (sorry Mom--I'm getting ideas! I know I have to save up for it) because he's had 2 students intern abroad and they have had some amazing opportunities arise from it. In conclusion, there are a lot of new amazing people to meet! :)
Today was also my second day of class... so we learned more today and finished two lessons! It was a lot of fun! I love my professora and the kids in my class. Which helps a lot since the class is 5 hours long... :) But today we got to practice doctor/patient basic conversations. So we would greet the patient, ask for their name and how to spell it, how old they were, their weight and height. Then we would tell them to extend their arm so that we could take their blood pressure and pulse. It was fun to actually practice saying the phrases and whatnot because now its starting to come more naturally. We also learned some pretty normal and basic commands that a doctor or nurse would say. So it was a pretty productive day! :)
Okay now for the "almost got run over by a car" sorry to worry some of you by that title :) But my roommates and I went to pequeno mundo (which is like a Sam's Club in a way) to get a notebook and notecards and then we walked over to the supermercado to get some bread so we could make sandwiches some days to save money. That's when we were crossing the street and like I told you before, they do not have any speed limits here and pedestrians do not get the right of way... so it makes it challenging. Anyway we were walking down a road and it didn't look like this car had it's blinkers on and we made eye contact with him--he looked like he was going to continue going straight! Well, he didn't and we almost got run over. Oops? :) I guess we're still getting used to the whole driver and pedestrian relationship here... :)
Well, this is getting longer then I planned (sorry for my rambling) but I'll leave you with one little spanish lesson! Pura Vida! Can be used in many ways... Hello, goodbye, life is great!, etc. A Tico told us that whenever we don't know what to say here to just say Pura Vida! and whoever we are talking to will be content :) So if you're ever planning to come to Costa Rica, remember that! :)
So with that I'll leave it with a
PURA VIDA!!!! :)
